John Salvatore
Co-Coaching Director

John Salvatore is the founder and President of Soccer Extreme. John played at UCONN and then professionally for the USL “A” League Connecticut Wolves. He was then invited to play in the MLS combine, and in 1996, led the nation in goals against and was offered a contract to play for the Revolution (MLS) and for the world-famous Brazilian Club Santos (which is most noted as the club with which Pele played). John holds a USSF “A” License, NSCAA Premier License, National Youth License and a CBF Brazilian License. He is a former college coach of two Division 1 programs. At the University of Hartford Woman’s program they were nationally ranked as high as 4th in the country and had 4 NCAA appearances. While at Yale University’s Men’s program for 6 years, he was the 1st assistant, assuming roles of player development, national and international recruitment, game assessments, Goalkeeper development and scouting.
In 2008 John was inducted into Connecticut Girls Soccer Coaches Association “Hall of Fame.” Over the past 17 years, John has helped with the development of seven players who made the U.S. Youth National Team and assisted thousands of young players in realizing their full potential and reach the highest ranks of college and pro soccer. In addition to directly participating in youth coaching, John also oversees a staff of 40 professional coaches at Soccer Extreme.

Alex Harrison was born in the South of England. Alex started his professional soccer career at the age of 13 at Portsmouth Football Club. He went on to lead his Country as a Captain from the ages of 16 to 19, and broke the national youth goal scoring record that was held previously by a current professional Jack Lester (Nottingham Forest F.C). After an international tour with his country to the Carolinas, he was offered scholarships with N.C.A.A. Division One Central Connecticut State University. He became an All American Freshman and also made the All American list his Sophomore year. He was Rookie of the Year and twice the Player of the Year in the North East Conference. His Junior year he was the top Goal Scorer in the N.C.A.A Division One. Alex joined the Soccer Extreme staff in 2005. He has guest coached for the majority of Western United Extreme Teams and is currently the Head Coach of the WUE Force 94/95. Lastly, he also coaches at a University level with his former school, Central Connecticut State University, as an assistant coach.

Andy Ashworth

Originally from Warrington in the North West corner of England, Andrew Ashworth began playing soccer at an early age, representing Manchester Schoolboys as well as spending two years as an apprentice with the professional club Crewe Alexandra YTS. Andrew won the BUSA (British Universities Challenge cup) during the 2000 season with Staffordshire University FC and also began his coaching career with Stafford Rangers JFC, obtaining his UEFA B. On completing his sports science degree, Andrew began his first spell with Soccer Extreme where he obtained his CBF Brazilian License in Rio de Janiero before moving onto work as a director of Coaching with the Florida Soccer Alliance (Orlando, FL) and Academy Coach with Manchester United Soccer Schools. Andrew currently coaches and administrates the Summer Camps with Soccer Extreme.

Koli Bala
|
Sokol (Koli) Bala was born in Albanian where he started playing soccer at age five, and eventually played for his hometown youth and high school teams. After moving to the U.S., Koli wanted to continue his soccer career by providing his experience and knowledge to youth players. Koli joined Soccer Extreme in 2004 and is now the head coach of the Newtown U 13 Boys and coaching assistant for the U13 Force. He has a D license from CJSA, as well as State and Regional Goalkeeping licenses from NSCAA. Koli has his bachelors of Criminal Justice from Post University.

Nick Bogiatzopoulos

Nick Bogiatzopoulos is a graduate of Endicott College where he earned a B.S. in Physical Education with a concentration in Sport Management and Coaching. While at Endicott he was a 4-year letter winner for the Gulls. Through Soccer Extreme, Nick is the Program Manager for the Brookfield Soccer Club, Youth Academy Coordinator for Samba TTP, and Head Coach of the Extreme U9 team. Before coming to Soccer Extreme, he was on staff for the Aztec Soccer Club in Beverly, MA. He previously served as the assistant boy’s varsity coach at Hamden HS and as an assistant for the men’s side at Salem State College. Aside from soccer, Nick has spent time as a full-time staff member for Special Olympics Connecticut and later served as a pre-school program director for The Little Gym. Nick holds an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, a National ‘D’ License from the USSF/CJSA and a Coaching Certificate from Endicott College.

Craig Horne

Craig Horne is Vice President at Soccer Extreme. Originally from South Africa, Craig trained professionally with Albertain Callies and while training with them he decided to pursue an education and play soccer overseas in the USA. In 1994, Craig received a soccer scholarship to Lander University in South Carolina, where he went on to graduate Cum Laude with a degree in marketing management and a minor in Philosophy. While at college, Craig became involved with coaching youth teams, including coaching the St Giles U15 Girls Premier team to a South Carolina state championship. Craig furthered his coaching licenses by gaining his USSF A and NCSSA Premier License and gained hands on experience by coaching premier teams in CT (CFC and Weston KAOS).

Kevin Fitzsimmons has served as Head Coach and Academy Director for Soccer Extreme since August 2004. Kevin is the head boy's varsity coach for Weston High School. Originally from Liverpool, U.K. (and a life-long Everton fan), Kevin was the Head Coach for the Manchester United Football Club Soccer Schools prior to joining Soccer Extreme. During his time with ManchesterU, Kevin coached the boys U18 National Team of Thailand. He also coached the Broughton Hall School U12 & U13 Girl’s Team; this team was the 2003-04 National Adidas Six-A-Side Competition Champions; the Merseyside Cup runners-up for 2003-04; and the Merseyside Cup Champions in 2002-03. Kevin’s playing career included playing his college and university teams and a soccer apprenticeship with the professional English team the Tranmere Rovers. Kevin has a BSc with Honours in Sport Science/Coaching Science from Edge Hill University in Liverpool. He also has a Level 3 Certificate in Coaching/UEFA B.

Marc Kenney

Marc Kenney is the Girls Varsity Soccer Coach at Newtown High School. During his first two seasons, Marc’s Nighthawks accumulated a 30-5-2 record. Prior to Newtown, Marc was an assistant women’s coach from 1999-2006 under Jim O’Brien at Southern Connecticut State University. During his tenure, Marc helped lead the Owls their first ever NCAA Tournament in 2000 after completing the regular season 20-0, winning the Northeast-10 regular season title, and a #7 NSCAA Final National ranking. Marc was the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Teikyo Post University from 1996-1999, reaching the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship and selected as CACC Coach of the Year in 1996. Marc has extensive premiere and youth coaching experience coaching the South Central U16s, Brookfield United U17s, and CFC U16 Gunners, as well as working with the Connecticut ODP Program. From 1996-2002, Marc was a staff coach at the University of North Carolina Summer Camps. Marc was a goalkeeper at Central Connecticut State University from 1992-1995, where the Blue Devils won the 1992 ECC Championship. Marc has a degree in Communications and Journalism and a graduate degree in English and Secondary Education certification from Southern Connecticut in 2001. Currently, Marc is teaches English at Newtown HS.

Nelson Mingachos

Nelson Mingachos is the Head Girls soccer coach at Immaculate High school in Danbury CT. Nelson has been at Immaculate for the last 8 years; during that time, his team has won 2 South West Conference Championships (2004, 2005) 5 State Championships (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009). He was named Danbury News-times Coach of the year (2004, 2005, 2006), South West Conference Coach of the year (2008 & 2009), and Coach of the Year by the Connecticut Girls Soccer Association and the Danbury News Times (2008), and NSCAA New England Girls High School Small School Coach of the Year (2009). Nelson has also coached several years at the premier level with the Connecticut Football Club. Nelson has coached many All-State players (too many to name) and an All-American Nikki Weiss, who is now playing for Notre Dame University. Nelson is also a member of the CGSCA All-State, All-New England, All American Committee and is the South West Conference Girls Soccer League Rep. Nelson is a Graduate of Immaculate High School and Central Connecticut State University.

Scott Neumann is the Head Varsity Girl's coach at Wilton High School. In his three seasons as head coach, Scott has led the Warriors to conference finals and to two State Championship Titles. Scott has been involved with the Wilton program for eight years, serving as freshmen, Junior Varsity, and Assistant Varsity before taking the reins as Head Coach. While involved with the Varsity squad, Scott has been a part of three conference championships and two state titles. Before beginning his career at Wilton High School as a Physical Education Teacher, Scott was the Assistant Varsity Boy's coach at South Windsor High School and also coached at the youth level in Orange, CT. Scott played at the collegiate level prior to becoming a coach. He holds a strength and conditioning certificate and recently completed his Masters Degree in Sport Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University.

Christina Nunes

Christina earned a Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. At UMass, she played three seasons for the Minutewomen. Christina finished up my final year of eligibility at Southern Connecticut State University where she is currently perusing a Masters degree in School Counseling. Christina was a member of the New England Mutiny who played for the 2007 WPSL National Championship. Currently, Christina is am the freshman coach at Naugatuck High School, and Varsity assistant. She has an ‘E’ License from the USSF/CJSA.
